I Saved the World and I’m Only in 4th Grade! Mi Casa, Su Casa (Book 5)
Written by Hiroshi Sosa-Nakata
About Book 5 of the Series
Book 5 Warning: This book contains an epic adventure that places three fourth graders in extreme danger! Hiro, Bryan, and Zahra, our favorite Senshi Warriors, are once again saving the world. As it turns out, the best way to save the world is by designing bulletproof 3D printed Halloween costumes. Who knew? Don’t miss their latest adventures, missteps, or weekly class project.
About the Author: Hi! My name’s Hiroshi and I’m a kid, just like you. I’m fascinated with the internet, use my smartphone to create all types of content, and love spending time with friends and family across the globe. My series contains epic adventures related to friendship, teamwork, and diversity. What more could any kid ask for?
My Inspiration: I am inspired by an appreciation of culture and diversity all around me. We are each different in some way. I am different. I think that differences are what make each of us unique, and things we should be proud of. Unfortunately, some kids make fun of others for such differences. My books are meant to help celebrate the wonderful ways in which every kid should be proud of who they are, where they come from, and the contribution they make to the world around them. I am lucky enough to have parents that celebrate the many ways that I am unique. My mom is Japanese and my dad is Mexican, and they have struggled to ensure I am proud of all aspects of my culture. They send me to Mexico and Japan to spend summers with my grandparents, even though my dad says it costs way too much to do so. The result is that they have created someone who is confident, proud, and capable of accomplishing anything I put my mind to. For example, wanting to write a book series about diverse characters confronting any obstacle in front of them by working together.
Series Theme: Throughout this series you’ll read about epic adventures related to friendship, teamwork, and diversity. What more could any kid ask for? Did I mention we save the world?

This second book has been inspired by global events and the social justice efforts. America is a symbol of hope for many around the world. It’s a land of opportunity founded on important values. Our Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they’re endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” For that to be a reality for all Americans, we must work toward a future that honors and respects all. It’s up to us.

Key Theme – Diversity & Black Lives Matter
This second book has been inspired by global events and the Black Lives Matter movement. It is a recognition that we live in a world in which hatred and violence still exists. It is our responsibility to address these issues and, yes, even kids like you and I can make a difference. We can start by simply recognizing some of our classmates, friends, and their family members are struggling. Besides being here for them, we can use our voices to support change. We’re the future, after all.
If the characters in this book were real, then Zahra’s father might be targeted by security or law enforcement while shopping, jogging, or even driving. Countless black lives have been subject to violence, discrimination, and systemic racism. Zahra would be crushed, along with her younger siblings, if for any reason they no longer had a father in their lives. Hiro’s mother might get spit on in public by an ignorant and racist person who believes Hiro’s mom is the reason COVID-19 exists, even though Hiro’s mom has lived in the United States for many years. Bryan’s family would potentially be faced with issues related to immigration and legal status in this country. If Bryan’s parents were subject to deportation, Bryan would be without his family even though he was born in the United States. Regardless of what you think about laws and legal situations, these are kids we’re talking about. These are our classmates. These are our friends.
America is a symbol of hope for many around the world. It’s a land of opportunity founded on important values. Our Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they’re endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” For that to be a reality for all Americans, we must face America’s past and work toward a future that honors and respects all. It’s up to us.
To my parents, I thank you. I’m lucky enough to have parents who celebrate the many ways that I’m unique. My mom is Japanese, and my dad is Mexican-American. They have struggled to ensure I’m proud of all aspects of my culture. They continue to teach me to value and appreciate those around me, regardless of where people come from, what language they speak, or the color of their skin. The result is that they have created someone who is confident, proud, and capable of accomplishing anything I put my mind to. For example, wanting to write a book series about diverse characters confronting any obstacle in front of them by working together.
Thanks again to my school and the library resources in it. I have probably read every interesting book at least twice. The library, librarians, and wonderful books I find there have allowed me to escape when needed, fall in love with all types of characters, and even dream of other worlds where all things are possible.
Lastly, thanks to the City of Mansfield. Who wouldn’t love a city that has its own Pickle Parade? I love this place!
